PTI to table bill empowering EC: Haleem


Sheikh says drugs is being openly sold in whole Sindh while extortion of Rs6m is being collected from Hyderabad only

KARACHI   – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Vice President and the Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh said on Sunday that the Prime Minister had invited political parties for electoral reforms, and his party would table an amendment bill for empowerment of the Election Commission (EC).This he said while addressing a press conference at Hyderabad Press Club on Sunday. He was flanked by PTI leaders Imran Qureshi, Ameenullah Moosakhail, Jansher Junejo, Ali Hingoro and others. Sheikh said in the past those who were in power did nothing for electoral reforms.

He said overseas Pakistanis should be given the right to vote, as they send foreign exchange to the country. He said the nation had already seen horse trading in Senate election. The PTI leader said: “Electronic voting machine would bring improvement. Fee of nomination paper was being increased. He said in Naya Pakistan, we will go to a Naya election. If political parties fail to support, the nation will see their real faces.

The opposition leader said in Sindh, there were officers like AD Khuwaja and Aftab Memon, and there were also officers like Bashir Memon. He said Memon made a drama for a Senate seat. He said his legs were trembling in programme of previous day. He said Bashir Memon had met him and said that he knew lot about Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpur. He said he should have tendered resignation if something wrong was being done. He said Bashir Memon had told lies about Farrukh Naseem and Shahzad Akbar.

Sheikh said drugs were being openly sold in whole Sindh while extortion of Rs6 million was being collected from Hyderabad only. He said police were supervising drug peddling in Sindh. He said a youth, Babar Khanzada, was murdered in police custody because he refused to pay the bribe. He said the provincial government was corrupt and its police stations had become torture centres. He said the provincial rulers devoured funds for castration of stray dogs and now vehicles of Rs240 million were being purchased for stray dogs. Vehicles of Rs400 million were also purchased to kill loctus, he maintained.

He said COVID vaccine was not easily available. They have no money to purchase vaccine but they have funds for stray dogs. He said the federal government was giving everything to the province. “Punjab purchases vaccine but rulers of Sindh are involved in corruption, he said. Sheikh said when the Supreme Court objected on the colour of health card, they had printed picture of Benazir on Mazdoor Card. He said those cards were based on taxpayers’ money. He said they should pay from their own pocket and then print picture of any leader they like.

The PTI leader said he was the first person who raised voice against Bahria Town. He said: “Our villages are being forcefully vacated. Baharia Town means Asif Zardari. The PPP is behind this matter and we will bring a resolution against it in Sindh Assembly.”

‘PML-N, PPP can never be serious over national interests’

Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh on Sunday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) could never be serious to the advantage of national interests.

He said that PPP and PML-N had always fake power and dominancy. 

He said, ‘If horse-trading and rigging are stopped then there will be no one to call the names of these parties.’ Haleem said that all parties did not come in huddle and escape whenever discussion started on electoral reforms. He further said that people’s votes would be ensured after making amendments.
